Marius had assured her it was here, this exhibit. As she stood observing the displays, the fabrics, she could almost sense the air transforming around her. The scents of perfumes that then had seemed to seep not just into the fabrics but also into their very skin.
Drawing nearer, she weaved through a small cluster of people until she arrived at the placard that explained what she was observing and what the museum presumed.
"This is a display of a typical hotel room in Cairo during the Roman Empire."
"Not even close," she whispered, her fingers curling into her palms as her gaze intensified on the display. They never had beds like that, her eyes narrowed before she shut them, attempting to ward off the memories clamoring for attention.
Then again, theirs was not a normal hotel.

A day at the museum wasn't her normal idea of fun. Not that she didn't enjoy art, or history, but it wasn't just her vibe. But she could appreciate it none the less, this was done for a class she had been finishing up, they had asked the students to go to the museum and pick out any piece, and write about it. Giving details on why it's in the museum, it's significance, among other things. She wasn't sure what she was about to write about, it surely wasn't something she had no idea on, hell she heard they had an exhibit based around James Bond, so perhaps she can find that and work on it. However she was here, not far from where you were, she had her hair up today, nothing fancy, a pony tail of sorts as she just wanted to not have it all in her face for now. She spotted you by the display as she sauntered over and read the placard. She missed the whisper of course but saw the display and tilted her head, not aware it may or may not be accurate but she murmured Mean may not be modern ameneties, but the dsign of the rooms and such seemed beautiful It was meant as a compliment tot he piece, unaware you were of course having memories related to your past, hell she'd never even know you were any older than she was as she stood there taking in the details.

She became aware of the footsteps gradually approaching, prompting her to turn her head and observe the woman as she stepped up to read the placard. An employee approached, speaking softly, "If you have any questions, I'll be happy to assist you." The words captured her attention, more for their implied meaning than their explicit message.
"Who curated this exhibit?" she inquired in a gentle undertone, her voice soothing and melodic. "That would be Mr. Whitehorn."
"What knowledge does he possess?"
"I'm not entirely sure, but he's very qualified. You can trust the information accompanying our displays," the young woman attempted to reassure her.
Mads tilted her head, studying the woman until she became uncomfortable and hastily moved to another group near the Monet exhibit.
"Whitehorn," she whispered, gently touching the placard as if to memorize its contents. "It should have perfume," she murmured softly.

She was now near you, she listened to you speak with the employee not trying to interrupt or eavesdrop, just easy to do when one was so close to the exhibit. Her eyes taking it in as she heard you speaking, she liked your voice, it had a quality to it that she enjoyed. She didn't interrupt but walked around until after the employee was gone, you were there. She slid a bit closer Enjoy the exhibit? She asked, it was an ice breaker question really, it was perhaps a bit obvious she had no knowledge on what she was looking at outside of what the placard told her. She was smiling slightly as she seemed to hover there, maybe she'd find out more about this piece, though it would be hard for her to write on as she had very little knowledge of this period outside of what her books taught her. She would tilt her head hearing your comment quietly, not that she had great hearing but she wasn't far now What kind of perfume She would be curious how you'd know or why you'd say such a thing but rather than bring that up she asked the question as she heard you mention it

She may have been taken aback, yet her expression was one of utter calm and buoyancy. "The perfume?" she inquired, casting an introspective glance as if sifting through her thoughts. It was a gaze, a demeanor common to those engrossed in contemplation.
"Oh...frankincense, myrrh, mastic, pine resin, juniper, cinnamon...cardamom," she smiled, seemingly so immersed in thought that she appeared oblivious to her surroundings. "Honey from a hive by the river," she murmured, inhaling deeply as though she could sense the array of fragrances combined into a scent designed to enchant the senses.
Indeed, as she reopened her eyes to look at the woman once more, her breathing was a gentle pant, "There's nothing quite like it...though, I must confess a partiality for Chanel," she said with a smile. "Hello, I'm Madalyne Atta Sant Germain," she introduced herself, her name pronounced with what might have been a Mediterranean accent.

She heard you repeat the question, she watched you as she saw how you held your composure, or how you held yourself, there was some sort of aire to you she couldn't place, but you seemed to engrossed in thought or memories. She would smile as you were reacting as if you could smell those fragrances as you mentioned them. Her head tilted to the side ever so softly as she heard you speak on it It seems you have, a knowledge on this SHe meant this particular type of exhibit, it was more a comment than anything, she would hear her voice and looked over to you her eyes finding yours as she smiled, she nodded, she wasn't sure if you meant the same Chnel, but she liked those scents herself as you introduced yourself. Your voice, or accent was something foreign, she couldn't quite place, she hasn't met many from the mediteranian but she enjoyed it none the less, her lips curled up in a smile That's a beautiful name, I'm Rachel Katz She saie, quite american in accent, midwestern, mainly this area, it didn't sound any different to her, her own voice that is yours, she enjoyed the accent. Her gaze flickered over you as she spoke Enjoying the exhibits here? Small talk, what does one say at a museum, really not a pick up place for one, but two, well isn't it supposed to be quiet

"Oh yes, I do. I'm quite familiar with Egypt," she stated, leaving an impression that her knowledge extended beyond Egypt. "It's... a thing," she remarked, giving a slight dip of her shoulder in a subtle shrug. She turned her attention back to the exhibit. "The bed is wrong, so very wrong. The patterns on the draperies are not..." she tsked, shaking her head in disapproval.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Rachel Katz," she expressed, her smile curving her lips and bringing a sparkle to her eyes. After a moment of assessing her new acquaintance, she continued.
"If this is an example," she said, shaking her head slightly. "I was informed about this exhibit..." A frown creased her brow. "He tricked me into thinking I would love it. He knew very well I would find faults with it. So much so, that I intend to contact the curator and point out the inaccuracies."
With that, she laughed softly, recognizing once more the ruse Marius had played on her.

She would hear you speak on Egypt, wondering just how you knew, but then again perhaps you were some famous archaeolgist or historian that she'd probably never knew, or you just studied it. Hearing you speak. You wre going over each bit of it as she would let her gaze back to yours as she took a moment, to see the sparkle in those beautiful eyes Pleasure is all mine Madalyne, you know a lot about this...and perhaps mroe than I care to even know She chuckled, it was again just another indication of how smart you were, not that she wouldnt' consider herslef smart, just definitely not the area of expertise of her. She would hear you speak on this, and looked at it in thought Your friend said you'd love this, did he do this cause he figured it'd anger you and he'd get some enjoyment at your reaction when you went to tell him She said and shrugged. She heard the laugh and almost chuckled along with you understanding now that yes it was a joke played on her. Her gaze flickered over the hotel scene and back I could understand why it'd be nice to see it in it's reality, back when this was perhaps the norm, or norm for perhaps the upper class She said, she figured this room here wouldn't be for the common man, but someone higher up on the chain so to speak
"A lot, but through living, not studying books," she remarked, glancing at the exhibit. "They've gotten it wrong again," she said with a slight shrug. "Amir," she called softly, turning to a man so motionless he could have been mistaken for a museum guard or a statue.

"Yes, Miss Sant Germain?" he inquired after he approached. Around strangers, he opted for formality, though he usually addressed her by her first name.

"What's your take on the exhibit?" she asked, peering once more at the display before returning her gaze to Amir.

"It's a cinematic portrayal of what once was," he stated plainly, bowing slightly before resuming his post by the distant doorway.

"Amir is a man of few words, but his words hold truth," she chuckled softly, then continued, "They interpret it as a hotel, but that symbol," she gestured towards a row of hieroglyphics, "is frequently mistranslated at the bottom. It's not a hotel for travelers, but rather..." she paused briefly, searching for the right words, "it's more of a... place for... activities other than sleeping. 'Mat girls,' to put it mildly." She offered this as the closest translation for the symbol. "Prostitutes," she clarified.

Through living She said, perhaps she'd just have to take your word, you were definitely not looking the age that would be expected to have lived in this era. She didn't even notice Amir as you called him, she looked to the man for a moment and almost blinked. She stood there quietly as you two spoke. She would listen as Amir spoke of it. Seeing the bow, perhaps thinking he was a guard, or your guard, who were you, you were...intriguing to her and it drew on her curiosity. No she had no way of knowing, she heard stories of those who were vampires who'd live long times, but nah. She wasn't sure she believed em, hadn't met one, at least not yet. She would hear her speak about it as she chuckled So a brothel, a place for them to bring back their...men or whoever She said ever so softly, it bothered her none as you spoke of it. Still seems something you'd see...portrayed as a fancy hotel of it's time in a movie She shrugged softly Or maybe I'm just not cultured enough She laughed a bit as she spoke on it all. SHe looked back to Amir, who seemed to just...blend in, no she knew he was there. But he could easily of been a statue, before she looked back at you SO life experience... SHe would say I meant...for the time, not...for what this is SHe said as a blush almost formed on her cheeks, getting that her comment may be could of been taken...a wrong way. She would never presume such, and hell she felt like if either of them were in that line of work, it'd be her, not you.

"Yes," she answered, her composure unshaken and her inclination towards honesty evident. "I grew up in a place like this, in Cairo..." Cairo was not just the last place, but where she had spent the most time. She shrugged again, which might be perceived as a quirk or a habit. Gazing back at the exhibit, she continued, "Men were sent to the rooms; there was no choice, no option to consent or refuse. It simply was," she stated, her tone factual, almost devoid of emotion.
A moment later, she looked at you. "But that was another life. I am here now, and I find it an interesting place," she said, smiling broadly and laughing softly. "There are worse places," she thought to herself.
"It is a peaceful place," she continued. To say Chicago was peaceful, one must have lived through a wretched war zone.

She listened as you answered as you spoke of growing up a place like this, and in Cairo, it explained the accent that she enjoyed. Listening to how you speak on it, as you were again speaking from experience. She picked up the lack of emotion, which made her wonder some. She looked from the place to you and smiling back at you and she nodded There are I am sure She said, meaning that. She was trying to place a finger to why you know so much, you were wise beyond the years you shown. She would hear you speak of this being a peaceful place. She would almost chuckle as she made a comment Yeah America's murder capital, peaceful She shrugged and again jst shhook her head Sorry, I know we have it better off here than other places, jst never thought someone would call Chicago peaceful. She turned looking at you again, almost studyhing in a way SO you have life experience in this, but you look no older than I am... She murmured as if putthing things together, though perhaps the human brain can make up excuses for almost anything, mean sure people say they've seen bigfoot, but really couldn't of been a bear they saw from a distance, or something. SHe didn't know where she was going with this, she just found you intriguing and she didn't intend to just walk away from someone like you, it didn't hurt that she found your acent and overall exotic look attractive

She sensed your curiosity. "Honey, it's almost..." she paused, searching for the right word before continuing, "rejuvenating for the skin." She tilted her head, briefly caressing your cheek, "It helps prevent wrinkles and heals imperfections of the face and body."
"I've been in worse places," she remarked about Chicago. "At least here there are only a few... not hundreds," her concept of 'a few' might be slightly off. Yet, she knew the curiosity would gnaw at the woman long after their departure.
"Amir," she addressed the man, her gaze fixed on the woman's eyes. "What are we?"
"Manjasang," he answered promptly. "Blood eaters," he elaborated, as though that clarified things.
"Thank you, Amir," she responded to him waiting for the woman's reaction.
